The training is taught by Leta LaVigne, an experienced international yoga teacher and teacher trainer who has studied directly with Paul Grilley since 2011. Paul is one of the key figures behind modern Yin Yoga and the creator of the functional approach that has transformed how teachers understand anatomy, skeletal variation and individual differences.

The Training Includes:

  • a comprehensive 86-page training manual
  • practical tools for planning and teaching Yin Yoga
  • a certificate of completion

What we'll explore

During Yin Essentials, we’ll explore both the nuts and bolts of bodies and the quieter, deeper terrain of Yin Yoga as an embodied and contemplative practice.

  • the philosophy, principles, and purpose of Yin Yoga

  • the archetypal Yin pose families and their variations

  • functional anatomy, skeletal variation, and individual range of motion

  • understanding muscles, joints, sensation, and appropriate stress

  • the use of props, the wall, and intelligent adaptations

  • the difference between functional intention and fixed alignment

  • teaching language, facilitation, and holding space

  • sequencing with clarity, purpose, and awareness

  • an introduction to meditation through the lens of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras

  • practical teaching experience and real-world decision-making

The curriculum of this intensive training is compact but carefully woven, with each strand of anatomy, philosophy, meditation, and teaching practice deepening the others to create a rich, integrated understanding of Yin Yoga.

Teaching Yin is more than poses

A skillful Yin teacher does far more than choose asanas and count the minutes.

They hold the space, observe the individual practitioners before them, and adapt the practice with intention. They choose their words carefully, cultivate a sense of spacious presence, and invite students more deeply into their own experience rather than simply directing them from one shape to the next.

In Yin Essentials, you will explore how to:

* recognize what different bodies may need

* adapt poses while preserving their purpose

* use language that invites curiosity and awareness

* offer choices without making the practice confusing

* work skillfully with time, stillness, silence and sensation

* create a grounded and supportive atmosphere

* sequence classes with clarity, balance and intention

* hold space without over-teaching or filling every moment

The aim is not simply to lead students through a sequence, but to create the conditions for meaningful practice.

Is this training for you?

Yin Essentials is for people who want to understand Yin Yoga more deeply and teach it with clarity, confidence, and sensitivity.

This training may be a good fit for you if you are:

  • a yoga teacher who wants to begin teaching Yin Yoga

  • already teaching Yin and looking for more depth, structure, and confidence

  • currently completing a yoga teacher training

  • an experienced Yin practitioner who wants to understand the practice beyond the poses

  • a movement or wellness professional interested in individual anatomy and embodied awareness

You do not need to be a qualified yoga teacher to attend.

What matters most is that you have some experience with Yin Yoga, a genuine interest in the practice, and a willingness to learn through movement, observation, discussion, and reflection.

What past students say

"I loved everything! The down-to-earthness about functionality yet keeping in mind that yoga is yoga and not just fashionable stretching. Leta has so much experience and a way of verbalizing it to get to the core of the essentials. It was amazing to have such a well constructed course and proper manual. On a meta level, it was good to learn about teaching, too: Leta really knows how to teach, both yoga and yoga teachers! I have experienced trainings that have not felt like value for money (outside of the yoga scene as well), but this course had the sense of added value, which is quite unique these days. And that stems from Leta's personal skills and spirit!"
- Katja Heikkiläinen

"Leta's Yin Yoga teacher training is absolutely top-notch and suited my needs as a teacher who needed additional professional training. Everything essential was covered. I especially liked the practical approach to teaching Yin and real-life teaching situations. Leta creates an open, encouraging and immediate atmosphere around her, where everyone can easily discuss and be themselves. The team spirit was great! I warmly recommend this training to all trainees and teachers interested in Yin Yoga! This really provided good tips for everyday teaching situations, developing professional skills and planning lesson content!"
- Teija Maila

"I recommend this training. A full-on five hearts! It provides you with a useful method on how to approach Yin Yoga as a whole. The training encouraged to embrace our differences and start exploring ways to bring authenticity into the practice. Leta is such a sweet and thoughtful teacher. The training welcomes you as you are, it helps you to open up and to further explore the aspects of who you truly are. Thank you."

Meet your teacher

Seattle native Leta LaVigne is the founder of yogaROCKS studios in Lahti, Finland. She has taught yoga full time since 2008 and is widely recognized as one of Finland’s most experienced Yin Yoga teachers and teacher trainers.

Leta has studied extensively with Yin Yoga pioneer Paul Grilley since 2011. Her teaching is deeply rooted in his functional approach, with its emphasis on honoring each unique body rather than imposing a single ideal shape. Her work is also informed by years of study in other yoga traditions and somatic practices, along with a continuing interest in how attention, language, and individual experience give shape to practice.

She has led teacher trainings in Finland, Estonia, and the United States, as well as online programs for an international community of students. She also teaches regularly with the 2Y Functional Yoga School and contributes to an international online program whose faculty includes Paul Grilley. Her writing on Yin Yoga has appeared in Yoga Journal, with a particular focus on embodied understanding, skillful language, and the subtleties of teaching.

Leta’s teaching is warm, clear, and grounded in real experience. She is known for making the nuances of the practice accessible without diminishing their depth, and for creating an atmosphere in which students feel supported to question, explore, and develop their own voices as teachers.
